From the Economic Development Department

The Village of Wauconda continues to be one of the top growth suburbs in Northeastern Illinois as reported by the Northern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC), whose reports encompass Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. Our growth has been well planned and monitored by our Village officials. With our pattern of growth in population, we will see gradual commercial growth and development to accommodate our residents.

To reevaluate our vision for future growth, the Village updated and adopted a new Comprehensive Plan in July of 2007. The plan is a non-regulatory document, which guides the future long-range development actions of the Village. The plan reviews a one-mile radius beyond our current boundaries and outlines suggested land usage. The need for added roads, maintenance of open spaces and wetlands, and a balance between single family, multi family, and commercial use are included in the evaluation.

It is imperative for residents and business owners alike to support our current commercial establishments. This patronage will encourage growth and retention of existing businesses and provide a positive atmosphere that will attract new commercial expansion. Each of us can play a role in this endeavor by shopping Wauconda first, hiring local service providers, and promoting a positive image of our community. While quality of life is not a factor in enticing new business to a community, it certainly is a key factor in home buying decisions. We have what matters most: great schools, parks and recreational opportunities, attractive homes, and a responsive, open-minded village government. The expansion of our retail options will continue to make Wauconda a premier place to live, work, play, and prosper.
