Building & Zoning
The primary responsibility of the Building and Zoning Department is to monitor and regulate all building construction in the Village to assure compliance with the applicable, adopted Building Codes. The department also has the responsibility to oversee the Zoning Ordinance of the Village to not only assure that compliance is being maintained, but also to develop suggested changes to the Ordinance, when needed, for consideration by the Village Board.
Public Works
It takes a lot to keep the Village of Wauconda running; providing safe drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities, the lighting, paving and plowing of streets, the maintenance of drainage ditches and sewers, the upkeep of parkway trees, and the installation of signs to guide you. At the Public Works Department we build, maintain and manage the things you rely on everyday.
Economic Development
The Economic Development Department is dedicated to business growth, retention and attraction. This website contains current information on demographics, psychographics, available properties, and contact information to assist in new site selection. The Comprehensive Plan adopted in 2006 is also available to give developers the ability to view the Village's vision for future growth and redevelopment. The Village provides an expedited review process and has a cooperative approach to redevelopment. Our Economic Development Coordinator is available to assist the exiting business community with expansion, workforce, and local government issues, as well as provide developers, brokers, and site selectors with dedicated staff involvement. Please contact our Coordinator for any data or personal assistance you may require.
Environmental Quality
The Environmental Quality Department is responsible for administering programs in the areas of industrial pretreatment, grease abatement, storm water management, and mosquito control. It works with the Public Works Department in the operation of the weed harvester. The Environmental Quality Department acts as a resource for residents with questions or concerns about a wide variety of environmental issues. It also represents the Village in various environmental initiatives and conducts public outreach/education at local events.
