2022 Street Improvement Project

As part of the Village’s pavement preservation efforts, the Village Board has approved various streets to be included in the 2022 Street Improvement Project. The project will include pavement removal and replacement, pavement patching, sections of sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and replacement, thermoplastic striping, adjustment of structures and parkway restoration. The project will include roughly 3.75 roadway miles and should take approximately 15 weeks to complete. Construction will begin in mid to late July (road schedule to follow), with Main Street work beginning after September 21st.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down when driving through or near any road construction site and be alert for construction workers. Once the surface is removed and before the new layer of asphalt is applied, the street will have a rough surface. Drivers, cyclist and pedestrians should use caution, especially near protruding manhole covers.

UPDATE 10/19/2022
Leveling binder (first) layer asphalt installation is scheduled for Thursday (10/20) and Friday (10/21). Finishing of concrete sidewalk/curb and temporary measures to ensure a safe and fun Trick or Treat Main Street are scheduled for the week of 10/24.

UPDATE 10/14/2022:
Main Street (Garland Road to Il Route 176)
Milling is to commence Saturday, October 15 at 7:00 AM and will be completed by mid morning. Base preparation will be conducted early in the week with binder (first) layer asphalt installation scheduled for mid-week.  Miscellaneous concrete repairs scheduled for the week of October 24th along with temporary measures to ensure a safe and fun Trick or Treat on Main Street. UPDATE 10/4/2022

The attached project flyer provides a general overview of the anticipated schedule.  Material availability has challenged the contractor’s ability to schedule some work at the speed they would prefer.  Please know that the Village and Peter Baker & Son Co. are working closely to ensure the project is completed as quickly as possible with the limitations presented.

UPDATE 9/21/2022:

What to Expect:
The contractor will begin saw cutting curbs and sidewalks the week of September 19th. Curb and sidewalk removal as well as replacement will begin the week of September 26th. Milling is expected to begin the week of October 13th. 
We appreciate your patience and understanding while we complete these necessary improvements to our downtown infrastructure.
**All work is weather permitting with the possibility of delay.

UPDATE 9/7/2022:

The Village’s street improvement program is underway. Two components of the project currently in progress are:

  1. Concrete removal and repairs throughout the project area.  The contractor is starting curb replacement on Slocum Lake Rd and Brown St. The work on Slocum Lake Rd will require traffic entering and exiting the Country Ridge subdivision to be detoured to Brown St for five to seven days. The entrance will reopen during the week of September 12.
  2. Asphalt grinding on Nancy Ct, Barbara Lane, Garland Rd, Van Buren Ave, Monroe Ave, Edgewater Parkway, Washington Ave, Jackson Ave. The existing asphalt will be removed to prepare for new layers.
The next phase of work is expected to be in the area south of Rt 176 and east of Main St, including the streets of Wilson, High, Kimball, Lake View and Lotus, as well as Oaks Ave west of Main St.
