Part Time Sworn Marine Unit Officer
The Part Time Sworn Marine Unit is part of the Wauconda Police Department and their responsibilities include:
- Operating watercraft and Police vehicles
- Conduct boat safety inspections
- Tow and or help stranded boaters
- Maintain a safe swimming and boating environment
- Regulate winter lake activities
- Engage the community in a positive manor
- Attend Meetings
- Enforces all State Laws and Local Ordinances regarding (but not limited to):
- Boating registration
- Conservation
- Fishing regulations
- Operations
- Maintain the regulatory buoys
- Assist with special events and traffic control
- Complete tasks as requested by the Chief of Police
Eligibility:
- Currently certified as a police officer in the State of Illinois (PT or Full Time)
- Recently retired police officer in the State of Illinois in good standing with ILETSB
NOTE: The Wauconda Police Department is not currently recruiting for persons looking to get their part time police officer certification.

The Village of Wauconda is currently accepting applications for temporary, seasonal employment in the Public Works Water Division.
Summary
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the maintenance of the public water distribution system.
Duties Include:
Employee will be utilized primarily in a skilled technical position that involves locating underground public utilities such as water mains, sanitary and storm sewer mains and public lighting electrical feeds. Must possess the technical skills to review JULIE locates via email, operate locating equipment, and understand construction prints. Employee must have attention to detail to mark underground utilities accurately. Employee must conduct themselves in a safe manner at all times, including while working in right of way.
This is a 40-hour per week position Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and weekend and/or holidays as necessary. Starting pay up to $25.00 per hour based on experience.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Must pass a background check, physical and drug screen.
- Proficiency with a wide variety of tools and equipment.
- The ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

About the Village: The Village of Wauconda is located in west central Lake County about 45 miles northwest of the City of Chicago. As the Village undergoes growth, the Wauconda Police Department is looking for the best people available to become police officers. About the Department: The Wauconda Police Department employs 35 sworn police officers: 25 full-time and 10 part-time, and 2 full-time and 5 part-time civilian employees. Patrol Officers currently work permanent shifts, which are bid by seniority on a yearly basis and a 5-days worked/3-days off, 9 hour schedule. The Department is responsible for providing the community with professional law enforcement service and the protection of all persons and property. The Police Department is divided into four primary divisions: administration, investigations, patrol, and support services. The Administrative Division is comprised of the Chief of Police, Deputy Chief, and one executive assistant. The Patrol Division has one Operations Commander, three Sergeants, 18 Patrol Officers, and two part-time Community Service Officers. The Marine Unit falls under the Patrol Division, and consists of a part-time Sergeant and nine part-time Marine Unit Officers. The Investigations Division consists of one Detective Sergeant, two Detectives, and one School Resource Officer. The Support Services Division is comprised of one administrative supervisor, and three part-time support services clerks to perform the daily records functions and monitor the front lobby. All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Wauconda:
- U.S. citizenship -OR- legal permanent residency (green card holder);
- No felony convictions;
- Applicants who are 20 years of age -AND- have successfully completed two (2) years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university shall be eligible to take the initial examination. Any such applicant who is appointed under this provision shall not have power of arrest, or be permitted to carry a firearm until he/she reaches 21 years of age. All other applicants not having such college education MUST be 21 years of age, -AND- have not yet attained age 35, unless meeting certain exceptions as indicated under State Statute;
- Possess a valid state-issued Driver's License;
- Possess a valid POWER test card -OR- equivalent criteria as per the State standard, issued within 6 months prior to the written exam date (February 10, 2024);
- Only POWER Test Cards issued by NIPSTA, Triton College, or Joliet Junior College will be accepted;
- Residency within 25 miles of the Village of Wauconda at time of hire;
- Successful completion of a written examination and mandatory candidate orientation session;
- After posting of the entry level eligibility roster, the following steps will be required prior to hire: successfully passing of an oral interview, credit/background investigation, psychological and polygraph examinations, medical examination, and drug testing;
- Pay a $25.00 non-refundable application processing fee.

- Valid state-issued driver's license;
- Must be employed, whether currently or in the past, for at least 24 months as a full time sworn law enforcement officer in a regular police department in any municipal, county, university, or State law enforcement agency and is certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board ("ILETSB");

- Must currently serve as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer in good standing for a municipality or public law enforcement agency in a comparable position.
- Must have a minimum two years of full-time experience

Summary
A Civilian Digital Evidence Technician assigned to the Investigations Section operates under the direct supervision of the Detective Sergeant. The purpose of the positions in this classification is to provide for the security and control of seized, recovered, and evidentiary property as well as abandoned, lost, or found property in the custody of the agency. In addition, perform a variety of specialized technical duties to include processing all forms of digital media, including Axon suite of media as it pertains to Body-worn and In-car camera videos. This position also performs related clerical and customer service tasks.
Qualifications
The Civilian Digital Evidence Technician must have the ability to type 25 words per minute (corrected), must have the desire and ability to stay current with the latest information available on all required products and the ability to obtain Freedom of Information Officer certification within thirty (30) days of employment. Must possess knowledge of evidence collection, processing, and preservation. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Special Requirements
The Civilian Digital Evidence Technician must be a citizen of the United States, either natural or naturalized, must have a valid recognized State Driver’s License, ability to pass a rigorous background check to include checks at the National Level, credit check and pass drug testing and pre-employment physicals.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one-year related experience and/or training. Excellent communication and customer service skills required. Computer skills with experience in word processing and data entry, desirable. Requires exceptional attention to detail and confidentiality. Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Salary, Hours and Benefits
Starting salary is $25.00 per hour. Part-time at 25 hours per week, hours to be assigned by the Chief of Police and will require day and some afternoon shift hours. Hours will be flexible to accommodate both the employee and the Village. Benefits include Participation in the IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund) and paid leave time.
