Part Time Sworn Marine Unit Officer
The Part Time Sworn Marine Unit is part of the Wauconda Police Department and their responsibilities include:
- Operating watercraft and Police vehicles
- Conduct boat safety inspections
- Tow and or help stranded boaters
- Maintain a safe swimming and boating environment
- Regulate winter lake activities
- Engage the community in a positive manor
- Attend Meetings
- Enforces all State Laws and Local Ordinances regarding (but not limited to):
- Boating registration
- Conservation
- Fishing regulations
- Operations
- Maintain the regulatory buoys
- Assist with special events and traffic control
- Complete tasks as requested by the Chief of Police
Eligibility:
- Currently certified as a police officer in the State of Illinois (PT or Full Time)
- Recently retired police officer in the State of Illinois in good standing with ILETSB
NOTE: The Wauconda Police Department is not currently recruiting for persons looking to get their part time police officer certification.

Maintenance Service Technician - Streets
Job Posting – May 2023
The Village of Wauconda (population of 14,125) located in Lake County, Illinois is currently accepting applications for a Maintenance Service Technician in the Public Works Department. This employee would report to the Streets/Forestry/Collections section.
This position requires operating a variety of equipment and vehicles utilized in construction, - maintenance and repair activities and performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in street maintenance, snow and ice control, storm drainage systems, public sewer systems, and building maintenance. Applicants should have a background in construction, carpentry, electrical and/or facility maintenance, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Lift Station experience and Fleet/Equipment Maintenance experience are highly desirable.
Applicants are required to possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and a valid State of Illinois Class B Commercial Driver's License with a tanker endorsement or obtain one within 120 days from date of employment; the Village may provide training to obtain this license. Candidate must have the ability to be on call and/or work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends, extended and non-standard hours. This includes participation in snow and ice control operations and other Public Works operations as directed. Successful candidates must complete/pass a background check, a pre employment physical, and a drug screen.

Maintenance Service Technician - Wastewater Treatment Plant
Job Posting – May, 2023 The Village of Wauconda (population of 14,125) located in Lake County, Illinois is currently accepting applications for a Maintenance Service Technician in the Public Works Department. This employee would report to the Wastewater Treatment Facility.
This position assists in overseeing day to day operations, preventative maintenance, and repairs of the wastewater treatment plant facilities. Assist in all analysis, laboratory testing and treatment procedures to conduct bacteriological and physical tests on raw and treated waste and its by-products, to ensure that plant effluent meets state and federal mandated requirements.
Performs minor semi-skilled interior/exterior of building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work. Conduct repair operations on water main breaks, sewer repair, wastewater treatment equipment, or other emergency situations.

The Village of Wauconda is currently accepting applications for temporary, seasonal employment in the Public Works Water Division.
Summary
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the maintenance of the public water distribution system.
Duties Include:
Employee will be utilized primarily in a skilled technical position that involves locating underground public utilities such as water mains, sanitary and storm sewer mains and public lighting electrical feeds. Must possess the technical skills to review JULIE locates via email, operate locating equipment, and understand construction prints. Employee must have attention to detail to mark underground utilities accurately. Employee must conduct themselves in a safe manner at all times, including while working in right of way.
This is a 40-hour per week position Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and weekend and/or holidays as necessary. Starting pay up to $25.00 per hour based on experience.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Must pass a background check, physical and drug screen.
- Proficiency with a wide variety of tools and equipment.
- The ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Full-Time Building Inspector Position
Position Summary:
The Village of Wauconda is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Residential Building Inspector in the Community Development Dept. This full-time professional position will be responsible for ensuring all private building construction is done in conformance with the applicable building code and other construction codes adopted by the Village Board of Trustees. This may include ensuring compliance with building, energy conservation, accessibility and zoning codes. In addition, employees of the Village are expected to be honest, courteous, and helpful to the public and handle matters in confidence. This position reports to the Director of Community Development.
A minimum two-year associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred. Candidates must have five years of practical experience in construction or a closely related field.
The hours of work are from 7:30AM to 4:30PM Monday through Friday.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Candidate must possess a basic working knowledge of the following skill sets along with the ability to demonstrate an improvement in these skills within 30 days of their start date.
- Thorough knowledge of general construction techniques and general provisions of the building-related codes enforced by the Village, including the ICC series of codes.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications; learn and apply specific provisions of applicable codes and regulations; communicate effectively and possess conflict resolution skills.
- Physically able to make various field inspections and walk on rough terrain.
- Computer literate, and proficient in data entry.
- Possess basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, interest, and similar concepts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is illustrative of the work duties and responsibilities of this position.
- Review and approve construction drawings submitted as part of the permit process and approve the issuance of building permits.
- Make timely and accurate field inspections on construction projects.
- Greet the public in the office and assist with building code-related matters.
- Prepare violation or fine letters and other written correspondence as needed.
- Prepare reports and undertake other projects as assigned by the department director.
- Collaborate with the other inspectors on various code matters.
- Advise the Community Development Director/Building Commissioner when building codes need to be updated.
- Work with the Village Engineer and Fire District officials in code-related matters.
- Coordinate third party reviewers and track their plan review upon submission.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
The person holding this position must have the following licenses/certifications or be able to obtain one within thirty days of their start date:
- Illinois Class D Vehicle Operators License
- ICC Certification as a:
- Residential Building Inspector (must be obtained within six months of start date)
- Commercial Building Inspector (must be obtained within one year of start date)
