Wauconda Police Department is establishing a lateral entry list. The application period will begin on or after November 18th and will conclude December 19, 2022 at 1700 hrs. The application is available HERE and is also available on the Blueline.com website.
- Valid state-issued driver's license;
- Must be employed, whether currently or in the past, for at least 24 months as a full time sworn law enforcement officer in a regular police department in any municipal, county, university, or State law enforcement agency and is certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board ("ILETSB");
- Applicants must be twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Must currently serve as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer in good standing for a municipality or public law enforcement agency in a comparable position.
- Must have a minimum two years of full-time experience.
- Must have successfully completed the Illinois Basic Law Enforcement Academy and possess certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board or have the ability to be qualified to be certified (by full-academy waiver) by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
- Must possess an associate's degree or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college credit from an accredited degree granting college or university.
- No felony convictions (Note: a misdemeanor or serious traffic offense may also disqualify applicants)

Support Services Clerk
Part Time Support Services Clerk for the Police Dept.
Summary
The position involves clerical assignments, data entry and assisting Support Services in the day-to-day operations as requested. Duties will include processing and filing reports for the Police Department, front desk receptionist duties, and assigning calls that walk into the lobby. The employee is required to handle sensitive information and legally protected documents as required by law and must have the ability to perform job duties with a high degree of tact and discretion in dealing with confidential materials and actions.
Qualifications
The employee must demonstrate abilities in data entry, keyboarding, filing and handling confidential documents, to include written and verbal reports all in accordance with prescribed regulation, directive or ordinance. The employee must also possess good customer service and communication skills.
Special Requirements
The employee must be able to pass a job related physical and extensive criminal background through the State of Illinois. The employee must be over 18 years of age and a US citizen either born or naturalized.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent work demonstrating competency in writing and an ability to clearly communicate and understand the English language. The employee must have knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, working knowledge of computers, word processing, data management and electronic file management. Three years’ experience in a police department environment is desirable, but a combination of school, skills and experience may be accepted for the position.
Salary and Hours
Starting salary is $18.00 per hour. The days and hours of work are as follows:
- A variance between 8AM and 10PM, 4 to 8 hour blocks of time
- Monday through Friday and may include some weekends
- Not to exceed 19 hour per week

Public Works Department Summer/Seasonal Positions
The Village of Wauconda is currently accepting applications for temporary, seasonal summer employment in the Public Works Department.
Duties Include:
Assist Street, Sewer or Water Division personnel with daily operations, mowing, weeding, trash and litter pick up/removal, maintenance of Village facilities including garage areas, cleaning and maintenance of Village vehicles & equipment, manual labor including occasional lifting and moving heavy materials and other duties as directed.
Work Hours/Salary:
- This is a 40-hour per week position Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and weekend and/or holidays as necessary.
- Starting pay is $15.00 an hour.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Must pass a background check, physical and drug screen.
- The ability to use or learn a wide variety of tools and equipment.
- The ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Community Development Seasonal Position
The Village of Wauconda is accepting applications for temporary seasonal employment with the Community Development Department.
Duties Include:
Assist the Community Development department with intaking and processing permit requests, answering phones, general customer service and other routine tasks assigned by the Director of Community Development.
Work Hours/Salary:
- This is a seasonal position from May through September 2023. The hours are 11AM to 3PM Monday through Friday.
- Pay is $20.00 per hour.

Part Time Sworn Marine Unit Officer
The Part Time Sworn Marine Unit is part of the Wauconda Police Department and their responsibilities include:
- Operating watercraft and Police vehicles
- Conduct boat safety inspections
- Tow and or help stranded boaters
- Maintain a safe swimming and boating environment
- Regulate winter lake activities
- Engage the community in a positive manor
- Attend Meetings
- Enforces all State Laws and Local Ordinances regarding (but not limited to):
- Boating registration
- Conservation
- Fishing regulations
- Operations
- Maintain the regulatory buoys
- Assist with special events and traffic control
- Complete tasks as requested by the Chief of Police
Eligibility:
- Currently certified as a police officer in the State of Illinois (PT or Full Time)
- Recently retired police officer in the State of Illinois in good standing with ILETSB

Maintenance Service Technician - Streets
Job Posting – May 2023
The Village of Wauconda (population of 14,125) located in Lake County, Illinois is currently accepting applications for a Maintenance Service Technician in the Public Works Department. This employee would report to the Streets/Forestry/Collections section.
This position requires operating a variety of equipment and vehicles utilized in construction, - maintenance and repair activities and performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in street maintenance, snow and ice control, storm drainage systems, public sewer systems, and building maintenance. Applicants should have a background in construction, carpentry, electrical and/or facility maintenance, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Lift Station experience and Fleet/Equipment Maintenance experience are highly desirable.
Applicants are required to possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and a valid State of Illinois Class B Commercial Driver's License with a tanker endorsement or obtain one within 120 days from date of employment; the Village may provide training to obtain this license. Candidate must have the ability to be on call and/or work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends, extended and non-standard hours. This includes participation in snow and ice control operations and other Public Works operations as directed. Successful candidates must complete/pass a background check, a pre employment physical, and a drug screen.

Maintenance Service Technician - Wastewater Treatment Plant
Job Posting – May, 2023 The Village of Wauconda (population of 14,125) located in Lake County, Illinois is currently accepting applications for a Maintenance Service Technician in the Public Works Department. This employee would report to the Wastewater Treatment Facility.
This position assists in overseeing day to day operations, preventative maintenance, and repairs of the wastewater treatment plant facilities. Assist in all analysis, laboratory testing and treatment procedures to conduct bacteriological and physical tests on raw and treated waste and its by-products, to ensure that plant effluent meets state and federal mandated requirements.
Performs minor semi-skilled interior/exterior of building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work. Conduct repair operations on water main breaks, sewer repair, wastewater treatment equipment, or other emergency situations.
